Red Laced Cornish X and project talk (pics p. 8)

Well, Al. I have a batch of WLReds from McM. Knowing they suck as far as type and all, I was just going to keep a couple for working a meat project. Now that I see your birds, I can't see why in the world I would do that.
Your birds just reiterate the reason I love this breed. Yours are just breathtaking birds! I guess I will be running an ad on craigslist and empty a pen tomorrow. Somebody will buy them to eat.

I guess I should refer to them as black laced reds instead of darks then; they would be perfect for adding some Cornish type to Big Medicine's somewhat softer feathered blue laced red Cornish project birds.

My incubator can be viewed on my home page in a step by step format. It just started out as an incubator then my DW asked if you have to hatch in the house, I said it's best that way. She then demanded it look nice since it will have to be in the house, so I built the one I still use.

Ha Ha! Al is the man when it comes to building incubators, you are on the right thread.

Wow, if Al has some plans for my hubby, I'll have to pick his brain. Then my hubby won't have to reinvent the wheel. He might be disappointed though, since he's an EE.

JK. As an electrical engineer, I'm sure he will love the challenge of designing and building a good incubator.

I came home from visiting Mom at the hospital a bit early today, because I wanted to make sure my chickens had not run out of water. The water was fine in the first pen, but I had lost 20 of the oldest juveniles due to the heat. That portable pen has a silver tarp roof that shades part of the pen then slopes off nearly to the ground; the idiots piled in where the roof is closest to the ground. It seems mostly those with the thickest bodies were the ones to die, includeing the three Cornish chicks that I liked the best. I can't believe the way this year has been going for me.

Oddly enough, the CX pullets in a much more confined pen, were getting low on water but just fine................. but their roof is flat.
