I could have swore that rabbit show was supposed to be in a week or two.... hmmmm. I must have mixed up on that. I have a friend who shows nationally and will be at it, so I better have a look there.

Do you guys know what the numbers of Cornish are Crossroads compared to Columbus? I thought I was going to be able to get to Columbus this year, but now I have too much to get done here before the snow flies to take off for 4 days.

He also mentioned there were a few Buff LF Cornish there and he said they looked like they had BO feathers type and a cornish type body, but needed some work.

Columbus is in 2 weeks, actually. I was supposed to meet my brother there, but now neither of us are going.

We had a cage of Buff at our State Fair, and frankly, not just as Cornish go, but as chickens go, I would have been embarrassed to take that pen to the local auction barn much less a STATE fair. OMG! In fact, I was NOT impressed with the quality of the LF birds at our State Fair this year. Bald heads, bare backs, missing tail feathers, awful condition overall on some. It just amazed me. I would think if you are trying to show your best, you bring what looks like the best, not just whatever you could snatch up out of the back yard, which is what some of them looked like. Sheesh. On there other hand, there were a few nice birds there, just overall was not impressed.

Gary, the three I hatched from your dad's birds sure are looking good. One has a funny look to the comb though, I will have to grab it and take a closer look. I should get some pictures on here too. One of these days when I have the outside work done. To hurry things along even more, I have had a predator out here that has me down three birds this week: a Buckeye pullet who just started laying about a month ago, a Blue Cochin pullet who hadn't started laying (and her boyfriend has been wondering around confused about her absence), and a BLRW cockerel (that my boys forgot to pen up 2 nights ago). I am thinking a fox, but not sure. I think the girls were swiped during the day. I found feathers from the Cochin, and the Buckeye I didn't realize was gone until after I found the Cochin's feathers in a pile. More motivation to get the beautiful house done for them and get the small coops up and more secure too. The last of the fencing is going up tomorrow, and maybe a hot wire soon too.

Left Crossroads shortly after noon today, was just too worn from the trip to stay any longer. Wish I have met Charley.
Came home with two Cornish. Will have some pics of the show winning Cornish and my new birds in a few days, too much happening right now to get them posted very soon. I do agree that the buffs there needed work; and the Darks beat the Whites in quality and size I believe.

IMO, the Whites and WLRs flown in from CA were nice birds, but didn't have the head size and huge frame and body that the top end of the Darks demonstrated. One Dark hen was superb!

I bought a pair of Whites from FL. The cockeral has way too much comb, ears, and wattles; but has a frame and body I like for a young bird. The pullet is too small and light framed for my taste, though has a nice head. They were both sold to me as yearlings, so may change a bit.

I looked the building over repeatedly, and the ICBA was not represented by a booth; I was a little disappointed that I didn't get to meet a single breeder.

ETA: The person selling me my Whites was impressed with the Dark pair I delivered there, especially the pullet's head size; and said they both were too young to judge but looked good for their age. [Naturally, I didn't take what I considered my best birds.

When at the shows you have to see a few guy's standing over a cage talking and just stand by and listen they will see you and after the secret handshake you can get in on the conversation. When I am at the shows I run constantly, tracking folks down, looking and talking over cages about strengths & weaknesses, going to the lunch run with fellow Cornish guy's, running out to look at birds tucked away out of sight in trucks and trailers, things like that. It does get to be a full day for sure but some kind of big fun.

I hope you had some fun and got to check out some good birds. I should be getting a call from Charley soon and get a full after action report, I have also been on the phone with allot of the guy's who are at the show and spent several long hours yesterday talking with them all in hopes of getting a feeling of what was out there this year. I like that Charley said that he and I and our stock don't have anything to worry about come Shawnee show time at the Western Cornish Nationals. He feels we have a great shot to do well, with our Whites and WLR hen's.

Al, judging from the pictures you've posted, as long as they are in some kind of condition/feather, I don't think your whites have a whole lot to worry about.

It was good to see some whites there. Everyone has the idea of what they like and that is why you see little differences in the birds from different breeders. What I like and breed for may not be as important to some and What someone else breeds for may not be as important to me.

Sorry I missed you Steve. It would have been good to meet you.
