I have given away several birds this last year and I do understand what you are getting at but until I get my own flock where I want it to be I just can't turn loose of any youngsters at this point. In a year or so that will be different.

I am always happy to share info and talk chickens with anyone with what little I know and have learned. I don't post much on here but enjoy reading this thread as well as the Cornish thread. I first got my Cornish to breed a meat bird like Katy has done but then fell in love with the breed. I think she has done a great job with her project. Her efforts look as though they are paying off. I just love the pic of the Roster she has bred. Katy, you have done good.

You know pictures and all are nice but what this place needs is some Cornish breeders that will offer some birds for sale to people who really want to raise them to the standard. I have sold eggs here just for that reason and will be donating some young birds at an upcoming show as a raffle prize.

There are 2 threads on here about cornish and all I see is pictures of birds with very few people actually offering birds for sale or eggs and compared to other breeds and breeders I find it very selfish. It is no wonder there are only a handful of these great birds at even the biggest shows.

If you are addressing this post to me, I'm not certain about what you're saying. I am breeding towards the SOP as I see it; and though none of my birds are perfect, I am pretty happy with most of the Darks I currently have. I like the quad of Whites I have also, and have spent a bunch getting them, but believe they do need more work than my best Darks. If you do not like them it's OK, everyone is entitled to an opinion.

As for not having any for sale, I have already sold or given away all but what I'm going into the breeding season with, and I've already promised some of this year's breeding results to others. I do not anticipate more than I intend to keep or that are spoken for already, so again "sorry no Cornish for sale".

My statement was not directed to anyone in particular but to ALL that raise these great birds. I realise the particulars to raising these guys but I always try to raise a few for donating or selling to hopefully get others hooked on them.

If breeders would do this more we could have a bigger gene pool to choose from and there may be more than 1 or 2 to see at the shows. I have not seen this type of behavior with other breeders, it is a real turn off. Image, image and image.

Same story here. I'm still working on the project, but breeding the pure Cornish also. Katy has made tons more progress than I have, so really interested in getting some birds from her.

I feel quite a bit like chickened concerning all the great pictures and no one offering eggs or birds. I made a public request not too long ago and received only one response. Thoughtful contact information was provided and I should be able to find what I am looking for but people that want to dedicate themselves to this breed REALLY need help obtaining viable stock or they will end up in my boat, hatchery stock, lost time and effort, digging and scrapping for any bit of information that can be found on where to find these marvelous birds.

NOW on the other hand, I completely understand that amount of work Katy has put into her project and everything Al and Pepper have been doing to achieve their goals and the necessary stringency in culling and inability to release stock or eggs and jeopardize their own work. I have my own turkey project going and it has been two years now that I have not been able to share with anyone because of my need to hatch and cull to my standards with everything available.

My real belief is there just isn't enough people doing cornish and even less people doing them right.... so, for those of us without stock, kick and scream and bite and claw until you can get your hands on some viable stock. For those of you with these beauties, when possible, please be merciful and be willing to pass on all your hard work to people who really care.
