Brilliant. I'm still finding them on the birds despite DE. Gonna nuke the place and will do as you say with permethrin. The lovely bird I lost was sitting on eggs. When I came back and found her I put the eggs in the incubator just in case even though they were stone cold. Two hatched today. Poor mama. Thanks for all your help. Does DE work at all?

NO.

Well, it does work on grain mites in feed storage...
.....but it won't kill poultry lice, red roost mites, or northern fowl mites.
Don't screw around with, get the permethrin.

Yes - I can get an Ant killer dust, which is 0.5% permethrin

I have used this on my birds in the past despite it not being licenced for poultry in the uk. It's just so messy and I'd need a lot to treat my coops...

Change bedding and spray at least every 3 days to kill any eggs that have hatched. As red mite don’t actually live on the birds and only come out to feed on them on a night I tend to concentrate on my coops more. I too have never been able to find a permethrin spray to actually put on the birds as I believe here in the UK it’s not permitted by the government bodies etc. All permethrin products here state do not apply directly. But I tend to think they can get the powder version on their legs etc from the bedding so how can it be so different??

Does it discourage them once you get them under control, or maybe work if the mites are actually immersed in it? or is it just a con?
