Cayenne pepper is an excellent dewormer for chickens (and all birds) because they don't have the receptors for capsaicin (the hotness of the pepper). I agree with many here that it doesn't enhance egg laying.
I use the red pepper flakes because they tend to be cheaper than the powder and some of the powders include salt! (Need to be careful how much salt your girls eat!)
I give my girls a big dose of it in their cottage cheese treat.
If you're using powder, you can also add this to your wild bird seed to keep the squirrels out of your bird feeders.
