Red pullet or roo?

Thanks again everyone. Going to assume my Phillie is a girl then since the majority say pullet. Hopefully she doesn't surprise me. Her messy tail feathers were really what were freaking me out. My other chickens have very hen like butts....

they have more stiff rounded uniform tail feathers. I know the black one is a sex link so she's the only one I was sure of. Once my EE on the right got her tail fully formed I could see she looks very hen-ish too. But Phillie's messy red butt just wasn't matching up with everyone else. It's hard to compare apples to oranges though and since all 4 birds are different breeds I only had pictures here on the forums to help ease my mind. Thank you all again for being super helpful!

I would say pullet as some pullets and hens have more curved tails than others. I have a few I was sure were roos in my first batch but they all (thankfully) were pullets.

This pullet is a golden sexlink and as you can see she has a more curved tail. But now she's three years old, and she been laying almost everyday for me.

Here is the picture blown up, you can really see the curved tail. As she grew she grew more into her tail.

I hope this helps.

Agreed on the tails. I'd be pretty surprised if your Phillie ended up being a roo later. One of our 15 week RIR pullets has black iridescent feathers on wings and tail feathers, with a goodly amount of neck feathers- thought she was a he when she first feathered in, but she is female.

She looks just

like our pullets- see the small comb/ lack of waddles, just like your pretty little gal.
