I posted a little over a month ago that I was worried I had a sick or injured pullet shortly after a massive hurricane hit out area. Did not have access to stores. Was worried one had cocci because she was waddling and laying down a lot, no issues with eyes, no bloody poop. Was able to get cocci mes from a friend. Then I worried that it was mareks...There was no way to separate them because our yards were a disaster...she’s better, still plops down some, but she walks around, forages, and has alway kept eating. Truly hoping that she was injured by an older chicken and not diseased. Now my problem is this. I have 2 older pullets (one laying) and an accidental cockerel that stay in one coop...they’re still too mean to the 2 younger ones-one of these was sick/injured one. In the laying chicken coop, I discovered a mass of poop with lots of red, purply slime and specks. I’ve been feeding them cranberry pellet treats that also contain pomegranate. Hoping this is the culprit?? All pullets and cockerel look fine, except for the one still improving. Also, should I be concerned with eating eggs? They look perfect. Thanks. First time owner.

Also, I was able to ask a vet-who doesn’t look at chicken- on first pullet issue because I was panicking about disease, and his thoughts were her issues could be heat related. She is a buff Orpington I got for TSC in Louisiana. Apparently these are not heat tolerant?? Not sure why they’d be sold in our area. Temps-heat index were in the 100s after hurricane. I do have lots of shade trees, but still was very hot. Sorry! Just trying to figure this out. :(((

Any vet knows how to do a fecal float on droppings to look for the pressence of coccidiosis or worms. Whether or not they are will to do one without seeing the chicken, some will if you are there with another animal checkup. Chicken droppings will sometimes look like what they eat. Tomatoes, blueberries, red cabbage, and cranberries will certainly possibly change the color of droppings. If you stop the treats, see if the droppings change back to normal. Certain breeds can be less tolerant of heat. Especially heavier or overweight chickens can be.
