Hi everyone!

Last fall, I incubated the first eggs from my flock. Rooster is a Gold Laced Wyandotte and the hen from the chick in question was an RSL. Somehow I got a red pyle cockerel out of the mix! I've been playing around with the chicken genetics calculator and cannot for the life of me figure out how a red pyle popped out of the egg. Any ideas?

Red sex links have dominant white, so that is likely what you’re seeing. I’m guessing he isn’t red pyle, but messy dominant white red columbian.

Picture of the cockerel?

Its not a red Pyle. Just something that sorta resembles one.
Your RSL has one copy of dominate white that it passed to the cockerel.
One copy of dominate white covers black etc but doesn't cover gold tones.
The cockerel is showing his gold tones from his underneath pattern.

Ahhh that makes sense. Will all the cockerels from this cross come out this way then, or will it be 50/50 depending on if the dominant white is passed from the hen?
