Red Rangers - 8 weeks - live weight 4 to 6.25 pounds - thoughts??

I usually raise cornish x for 9 weeks - we average 7 # dressed, with our largest 9# last year. Is it possible to get a red ranger to this size, and how long does it take? I'm worried about the genetics of the cornish, and would also like to hatch out my own (can't do that with cornish!). Has anyone bred Reds? Thanks!

We process our own, we rent the equipment from a our farming group for $25. Our local mobil processors charge $3/a piece. 100 birds would have cost of $300 last year, well worth the day of processing to save that.

I think most of the Reds are a hybrid- expect some performance lost in the resulting generations. I agree completely with you about the cornish x...we raised some last fall. Never again! They just can't handle a pasture system. You can buy Red hatching egss, but have you considered a Heritage breed?

I butchered my Freedom Ranger rooster when he became too big and rough for my hens. He was almost 9lb dressed but he was almost 6 months old. I'm guessing he reached that size several months earlier.
