Hi this is a two year old rooster from an elementary class egg hatching project. (he came with a hen too, just could not get a good picture) Just wondering what breed is he? He is a very nice rooster, not aggressive, protective of his hens and nice to baby chicks!

That is a Road Island Red. New Hampshires have longer bodies than RIR. and they are a lighter red. RIR are very nice chickens. lisa

That is not a Rhode Island Red.

If you want the truth a R.I. Red has the longer back and body than a New Hampshire.
New Hampshire were bred solely from the Rhode Island Red and when doing so New Hampshire lost the Brick shape, Dark Red Color, Length of Back, and Over All Size.

I was thinking at first Rhode Island Red, then I wondered if he could be a New Hampshire Red- I guess I was close. His hen is a lighter buff color, I wondered if a buff orphington or??? I will try to get a better picture of her next time. I agree that he is very handsome. Thanks for the compliment:D

If the Legs are Yellow She could be a Buff Rock.

New Hampshire. Mine are from a top breeder and are not dark. RIR come in two shades of red... one is dark and one isn't. This one sure looks like a NH

here are the pictures of the hen, she is camera shy! not sure if I should post a new thread but I'll add it here.
