My coturnix quail has a developed a red, scaly rash on her belly and feathers appear to be missing. I don’t know how long she’s had this. No major changes in behavior except she no longer jumps on top of her sandbox (her favorite). She still dusts in her sandbox, but not as much as before. She is about 3 years old and is an indoor quail.

She had feather lice before, which resulted in some feather picking, but this doesn’t look the same. Is this mites?

Any ideas?

I’m no expert but if you think there’s a possibility that it’s mites than I’d treat her. If it is well... Yay for the treatment and if it isn’t mites than at least she’s been treated, you know it’s not that and it’s unlikely that she’ll get mites which could make it worse. I’m not sure if quails can have allergies? If her behaviour hasn’t changed, she’s eating, drinking and walking around than hopefully it’s not too serious. Hope all goes well. 😊 Keep us posted. 🤗

have you checked her wings and the skin under the wings..it looks to me like a fungal/yeast infection but not sure check her wings and other body parts

Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll check it out!
try boosting their immunity..quail have a self heal way more better than medicines.."if they are raise with the right environment diseases are unheard with quails" this is what they've told me and it's totally true
