Red Sex Link Hen Having Goopy Vent Problems

Been having similar problems with one of my bantams, for over a week. She had a prolapsed vent and goopy, thick ooze coming out. She wasn't getting any better until last night she was pretty much back to normal. Have a look at my thread if it's any help. I thought I was going to have to cull her.

You want to give us the link to it? thanks. and glad she is better.

Well my lil cochin bantam still has vent gleet, and I have tried just about everything that has been suggested, so now I think I will go back and try the Monostat again.

she has started to lay eggs again and looks healthy but this gook coming from her bottom is not clearing up.

Okay, my Awk chicken is still alive and doing well, besides the vent gleet. I just bought generic brand Monistat (same exact ingredients, don't know which one I'm going for), and have started treatments yesterday. I hope it's okay to eat her eggs... (she is still laying almost every single day). It's the 7-day, and I'm giving her about 1/2 of the amount a human would use. I'm also administering it into and around her vent, not orally, since I was scared off by the poison control alert on the back (yikes). A few things online say that for the external fungal infections, you can use human anti-fungal cream such as that for athlete's foot, but I'm sticking to the Monistat both internally and externally. I'll probably do a 7-14 day treatment, depending on how long it takes me to get through the tube. Updates will come if I see any changes at all...

How often do you treat with the monistat? For a couple of days or a week and then how much do you use?
I have only used the Monistat a couple times when I first got her and then after a month of trying various natural remedies I used it again. Next time I will get the 7 day instead of the 3 day. She is still acting fine, laying doing all things chicken just has a goopy vent. I'll use the suppository and break it in half since she is a tiny bantam

So glad to hear both your girls are doing good. I lost my chicken that had the poopy vent so I never did get to visit with my vet about vent gleet. Recently I have noticed that one of my other girls now seems to have it. I called my vet and she recommended doing monistat so I am going to be starting that this weekend. I guess I will do the 7 day too and report back with results. My girl seems very healthy and lays an egg every other day but just has a nasty butt:( maybe we can all get some good results!!!
