9 week old chick's kicking bedding out of nesting boxes

Welcome to BYC. What type of bedding are you using ? Can you increase the size of the lip on the nest boxes ?

There is a small lip. I have been using straw. My big grils dont

Mine all scratched the bedding out, and it didn't seem to matter what kind of bedding I used. I added a taller lip to the nest boxes and it really helped.

They're exploring and playing in the boxes, which will prepare them for using them to lay in later. Not necessarily a bad thing, but a little inconvenient.
