I have a Red Sussex with 2 egg vents. I watched her lay and was very surprised to see the 2 vents. We have had some trouble with egg eaters in a flock of 11 hens and 1 rooster. Today my fiance' was cleaning the coop and she was perched, out came the egg, and then the shell! Any one have any suggestions?????

We have never heard of it either. She had been laying fine, until she moulted. After she started laying again, this is what is happening.
Our local Farm Show is here in a few weeks, will keep an eye open for the breeds you are looking for!

That is strange. Not sure how that's happening. Is there any way you could post a photo of this? That would help others diagnose better I think.

Thanks, Its a long shot that any one will have them but worth checking!

When you say egg,do you mean the egg came without the shell, then the shell came later? Does she have enough calcium in her diet? Yes,this can happen with eggs and as for 2 vents,it is possible as well.

Yep that is exactly what happened. Yes, they have plenty of calcium. Maybe it was after molting thing, I don't know. It hasn't happened for a few days now, we will see. Thank you!

I will check for you. We checked her vent last night, seems to be ok, maybe an after molting thing, and starting laying again, we will see, I guess. Thank you!
