I'm a new member to the forum. I've been a chicken momma for three years now with no problems with predators until now. Back in the fall our dog killed a red tail hawk that I'm guessing had landed on a chicken or our small dog. Unfortunately I didn't get to witness what happened. Now our chickens are very cautious and stay close to their coop when I let them out. I noticed a massive red tail building a nest in the front of our property this morning. Any suggestions?

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Sorry to hear you have a hawk problem :hugs If it were me I would be keeping my chickens in a run with a cover for safety from the hawk. You might like to pop by the predator and pest section ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/13/predators-and-pests
Other members there could give you some tips on keeping the Hawks at bay.

Good luck and enjoy BYC :frow

Please do as Yorkshire Coop suggested, keep your chickens in an enclosed coop with a TOP. Once the hawk hatches her brood, she will need to feed them often, that's why she picked a spot near a "chicken buffet."
