Not sure if this is in the right section . . .

Newborn with enlarged ???? protruding from cloaca.

A difficult birth, assisted and tummy seemed rather enlarged. About 24 hours old.

ANything to do to help it?

Had one hatched like that this week. The next day it was ok

I'm praying the chick will be alright.

I gooped on a fingerful of honey and immediately the other chicks were peck-peck. I moved tHe other chicks to a box with older chicks, leaving this one in peace.

I'm hoping your luck applies to my chick too. I only bought a few Ameraucana eggs, and every chick counts.

Really, the vent. A discrete tube like protrusion; swollen and beet red.Immediately under the tail.

Reminds me of sheep prolapses.

Navel would be thin, tapering. Ususally pale yellow.

This chick pipped upside down in the shell. After MANY hours of no progress, I assisted. Very wet, feathers dried clumped. I rinsed the chick under lukewarm water to wash off the cement-like fluid. Last one born of 5 that hatched.

I noted at the time the lower belly was unusually full and round like a ball. Don't know if this is pertinent.

You could put on a clean rubber glove. Put canola oil or olive oil on your gloved hand and gently with one finger see if you can encourage he cloaca to retract by gentlly nudging it toward the vent.

Thanks for the laugh Chicken Grandma! LOL It's been an extra stressfull day and now the day old chick needs an oiled finger fix. Sorry--the image is just really funny. WIll try the oil with a q tip; more it's size.

The little chick was very weak this afternoon, and passed away.

The PrepH and honey didn't reduce the size of the prolapse. I was hoping for a miracle as I needed everyone for breeding.

Thank you everyone for your help. We tried.
