Thats the way with mine, I am going to be using a small brooder for not that many chicks so if I do go with the full 250W, that will surely do the job and then some, probably a bit overkill. I'm wondering with the size of the brooder and the number of chicks I'm going to have if a 125W would be more appropriate heat. I also plan to use the 250W for the coop.

After the 2nd week I had to drop to a 60 watt bulb. I have my brooder in the bathtub of the second bathroom. My home is mildly heated so I did not need the 125 watt brooder bulb very long and even then I had to put it fairly high. Enjoy your little ones they grow very very fast. jean
