i know that the red lights are to keep chicks from pecking each other but what do blue brooder lights do? Which color is better, red blue or white

I've always used red and it works fine for me.

I think I read that blue is more gentle on their eyes or something.

I have a white light on during daylight hours, many people use red, but I only have two chicks and there is no pecking going on.

At night I turn on my blue reptile light for warmth (they are available in different wattages). It simulates moonlight, and from what I have read chickens can't see blue light. I have done this from day one and my chicks sleep like babies and won't be afraid of the dark when they are old enough to go into the coop.

Yes, it supposed to have a calming effect. I use it for my chicks and used one in my coop for the hens when it was very cold.

I tried a red light in the coop for the hens and they would not settle down when I changed it to blue they were very calm and went to sleep.

im only getting a few chicks and they are all docile breeds so i doubt their will be any pecking. do you think that then i would be best to use blue?

mostly I have heard people use red. Probably because it prevents pecking AND it is always avaidble whereas you don't usually see blue lights at every TSC or farmstore.

Hello I'm new to chickens and sooo excited. I got them this week as 10 day olds and have had them 5 days. I have been using a red light but just purchased a blue light and will try it tonight. thanks for the advice.
