Redinator's First Hatch-Along w Bonus Broody: Extended Edition

In retrospect I should've waited to move them after dark, but the chicks are hard to see in the grass in daylight, so I didn't want to take any chances and not be able to find them.

I'll move the incubator chicks out tomorrow evening when I have time to watch and observe Sweety's behavior towards them. My dad has an appointment tomorrow and I'll be gone most of the day, hince the push to get them moved to safety.

Aww, fluffy little Dutch ❣️

After spending an hour or so with Sweety and her brood . . . .after a very long day . . . I decided I didn't like the amount of space they have in the one half of the chick pen. I removed the divider and let them have the whole pen to themselves. It's already getting dark, so I'll get pictures/video tomorrow.

This feels like the right move since I realized the incubator chicks haven't even been without the brooder light, yet. I removed it today since they were mostly perching on it rather than sleeping under it. I replaced in with a few chick perches and they're having a blast playing on them. I'll get video of that as well tomorrow.

In a week or so (probably two) I'll move the incubator chicks into the new run with 8 and 9 week olds with the protection of this foldable pen (https://www.chewy.com/coziwow-collapsible-small-pet-hutch/dp/579726) I use to brood chicks indoors.

It's been a long and emotionally draining couple of weeks, but when you have chicks to play with at every turn it sure does make all the hard work worth it. :love

I honestly don't remember what I did with my spare time before all this . . .probably watched way too much TV and complained that I was always bored. :lau

So I went around my yard today and made a video of all the things I fully intend to get done this month. Be kind, the yard is a bit of a disaster and I'm aware of it.

I figure if I post the video y'all could occasionally ask . .did you get that fencing up, did the yard get mowed, and so on.

I also have to keep in mind my dad has 3 upcoming appointments this month. They're nothing serious just regular check-ups that always seem to cluster together no matter how much I try to avoid it.

I'm so glad I had @TwoCrows add "Extended Edition" to the title of this thread, because I'll likely just keep this one going rather than starting a new thread for every little thing that happens.

Edit: I also have an 8 bay nesting box to put together. Any suggestions on where I should put it would be greatly appreciated.

Reminding myself to come back and watch this in a bit!
