Redinator's First Hatch-Along

Which one is the handsome Roo? And if that a white chest I see on him?
The two chick that hatched from Pot are mostly black with a white neck and chest, they are also a lot fluffier than Sweety's chicks. Kettle is a chucky boy.

Sweety had a couple of black chicks too, but their patches are more cream colored . . I love that I can tell them apart easily. I might not be able too once they start to feather out.

I'll get good pictures or each chick tomorrow and we'll play who's your daddy with the ones that have me scratching my head, lol.

OMG Thank you @Slothinc . After waiting a few hours for the piped chicks to emerge and helping loosen the dried membranes they look like they might make. They're not out of the woods and still have small patches of dried membrane on them, but I'm working it off slowly. I know it's too early to get excited, but I'm hopeful. I gave each of these chicks a few drops of water and will fix them an electrolyte solution in the morning. I plan to leave them in the incubator until most of the membrane is off so they aren't clumsy in the brooder and getting pick at by the other chicks.

I also tapped each of the remaining eggs and heard one peep :wee . After hearing this I diligently tapped and candled the remaining eggs (a few times to be sure) and I found another with the triangle you described. I'm not confident enough to try piping the egg, but I marked the spot with a marker. I wrapped each of the hopefuls in a warm wet paper towel and left the area where I saw the triangle uncovered. These are two more of Pot's egg.

The rest of the eggs were clearly not viable, they felt and sounded hollow and I could see the embryos had stopped developing a few days ago.

:fl:fl:fl:fl I'm going :thin my bed now.

The two eggs still haven't pipped :idunno , it's starting to make me wonder if Pot's shells are too thick for her chicks to hatch without assistance.

The two that did pip are doing ok, one is nearly all cleared of the stuck membrane, the other still has a ways to go. These four remaining chicks/eggs need warrior names anyone whose egg didn't make it, or didn't get to name a chick the first time around is welcome to offer suggestions.

20250826_094540.jpg This chick looks strong enough and is mostly cleared of the stuck membrane so it went in the brooder with other chicks. After only a few minutes it ate a bit and drank a bit. It's a little bit stumbly, but I think in a day or so it'll get it's feet under it.

20250826_100203.jpg This chick is doing ok strength wise, but still has a large patch of membrane stuck to its back. I spent most the night getting its wing unstuck from its head and neck so it can move more freely. I think an electrolyte solution and egg yolk slurry are on the menu for this little champ.

I took a listen to the other two eggs, and I don't hear anything anymore, but I'll crank up the humidity in the incubator and see what happens. The increased humidity might help with the stuck membrane on the second chick second too. :fl

You’re doing great - congrats on getting those two sticky chicks out! The two that didn’t pip will need assistance if they are still alive. Taking off the shell over the air cell and then helping them little by little every few hours is the way to do it. I really should write an article about how I assist chicks and the timing… I have had to help so many chicks, I can do it with my eyes closed now 😂 but I remember when it used to be very intimidating and I used to lose a lot more due to my inexperience. It’s a learning curve that every chronic hatcher has to go through. 🥰

Deep breath . . . .okay, just a tiny hole to see if I hear anything . . . oh boy! Wish me luck
