Redinator's Project 365

These arrived today. I don't what I'll catch, but my son and I have heard some critter scurrying around under the house for the last few weeks. Stay tuned!

Hold on what happened?
@CCsGarden said you breed/keep mealworms and I'm clueless, lol.

I set up the kit as instructed and I see them squirming around and getting in the water dish that came with the kit.

I tossed in a few pieces of celery yesterday, but aside from that I haven't done anything else.

How do I know when they need more food or water?

How do I give them water? Will they drown in a deep dish?

I'm curious as to where the kit came from, I've never heard of water dishes for them.

Use the dish for the fruit. They need a fruit or vegetable for a moisture source. I would get one of those long carrots and break it up. I place it in the left side, center, and right side of the tank on a piece of plastic netting, but you can place whereever you want. You will have to stick your hand in minimum once a week to swap the carrot out before it goes moudly. It's icky but soap and water on your hands is well worth it.

So long as the carrot is moist, they'll get the water they need.

I really should write a new and improved mealworm article, there's some lessons that I've learned from the last few years.

They will start to smell at some point. If you've got a garage you might consider putting them out there. Ants will attack them if they can get them though. I've had that happen a few times.
