Hello and Welcome To BYC! Red Stars are a kind of Red Sex Link, a cross where the parents colors are specially selected so their offspring can be sexed at hatch by their down color. You can not breed two RSLs and get more chicks that can be sexed by down color at hatch. (The Red Star itself is a 'brand name" RSL sold by certain hatcheries, there are a bunch of different commercial RSLs sold under various names, ie ISA Brown, Golden Comet, Golden Buff etc.)

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. As drumstick diva and Kelsie2290 have said, Red Stars are hybrids and will not breed true. Red Star is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links, which are produced by crossing a red gene rooster (RIR, NHR, or Production Red) with a silver gene hen (SLW, RIW, WR, Delaware, Light Sussex, etc.). The resulting offspring can be sexed by color at hatching (male chicks are whitish, female chicks are reddish), and they are egg laying machines, outlaying either parent breed. It's one of the interesting quirks of hybridization. Other labels (besides Red Star) under which Red Sex Links are marketed include Brown Sex Link, Gold Sex Link, Gold Star, Cinnamon Queen, Bovans Brown, Golden Buff, Golden Comet, Hubbard Golden Comet, Isa Brown, Babcock Brown, Warrens, HyLines, Gold Lines, Lohmans, Lohmans Brown, Bovans Goldline, etc., but no matter which label they are marketed under, they are all egg laying machines.
