Redwood Incubator - Leahy Favorite ARTICLE with Pic

I am rebuilding a Leahy 416 that I just picked up and I would would really appreciate input on the best finish to use and any finishes to avoid.

Also I would really appreciate it if anyone out there can provide a good copy of the manual and any other Leah documentation.

Thanks in Advance,

Scott

This is precisely what I am worried about right now. I have scrubbed the exterior (along the grain) with a soft scouring pad and mineral spirits. I dried the wood out and then rubbed it down with more mineral spirits, this time using a soft cotton cloth. Further drying. Very little of the very deep stain came off. Unless I get good guidance before next weekend, I am going to apply Watco Teak Oil, principally because that is what I have on hand. If I didn't have the Teak Oil I would go out and buy some Tung Oil.

Houston, we have a problem.
Bator has been running two weeks now. We added 8 dozen eggs 5 days ago ; all has been well but tonight it does not want to rise above 93 degrees. We have the two original mercury thermometers and 2 digitals in it so I am certain the temp is correct. What do we do? Has the wafer taken a dump?

Ill check my Manual that also tells how each machine was made Maybe it will be in there . It starts out about getting the best red wood and how it was cut so Maybe ill check it out for you Tomarrow . Tammy

Tammy N- I have a Leahy 416 I'm restoring, I am trying to find an original heating unit that went in the bottom. Would you share with me where you found a place to order parts that are original?
Thanks,

Hello, I replaced the cord on my 416 and it fired right up. I washed all the trays and vacuumed it out, I think the best thing to do would be to wipe it out with a water and bleach solution. It is holding temp good, and I filled the wet bulb, all seems OK. After I finishing cleaning it, I am going to start putting eggs in it. Any pointers available. Thanks Pat
