REDWOOD Sears Incubator?

just because it may not be a leahy, does not mean it will not be a good incubator. our redwood incubator works great, the wood works like the walls of a preheated oven. you close the door and the temp and humidity are back up in no time.

Does it look anything like this??

We have 2 of them and I think they were made originally by Montgomery Ward. Awesome!!!!!! they hold heat and humidity like no other. They are the only ones I've been able to sucessfully hatch some of the more difficult stuff like peafowl, call ducks, etc. I think we paid $400 for the one and I traded a Hereford roping saddle for the other. Have had to replace some cords, wafers, and recently the motor/fan on one of them. $100 is a steal if its in fixable condition.

I too just purchased a Leahy Favorite, 6 tray. It's in good condition, everything seems to work. However I can't seem to regulate the temp. I did notice that there is some air leaking from the door. Would this be the reason? And if so, is it a hinge problem? It has two wafers, and the instructions say to use the right temp knob to get temp close and then the left to adjust. How do I know if both wafers are working? The right temp knob seems to work, light comes on and off when I turn, but the left doesn't seem to do anything?

I love the look of your old incubator. The hinges and handle remind me of the old wooden ice boxes people used to use. I had one of those at one time and converted it into a cabinet for glassware.

I suggest you PM DBcoope02 to see if he will email you a copy of his operating manual. I just looked at what he sent, and it has instructions for setting the temps. I know one wafer is what it runs off, and one wafer is a backup that shuts it down to keep it from getting too hot if the other one fails. Yours may need to be replaced, but try adjusting them first.

At least that is how the 2 wafer system in my GQF works. I have two GQF's. One is red wood.... not redwood. It is old, painted wood, and it is UGLY! It works great, though. If I get this one working I will sell one of my GQF's.

Stacir. It sounds as if the switches in your Leahy are working but the wafers themselves might need to be replaced.
I have the Leahy manual on file too.
PM me with your email address.

The wafers are not hard to replace and they are not expensive. Someone with more knowlege than myself will have to tell you if you need a specific one. Perhaps it will tell you in the manual.

Well... I just got home with my new project. It's HUGE! I was wondering if perhaps I was biting off more than I can chew, but I'm pretty sure it is do-able. The first thing I am going to do is build a dolly (I've got all the stuff I need to do it. Then it can be brought back to life and live on that dolly.

I'll get pictures later. It's on it's back in the back of the pickup. It wouldn't fit in the jeep. It is a Farm Master. The redwood is in excellent shape. There's a lot of rust on the inside, but I will be able to clean it up. It was working when it was parked there. It's been outside, covered with a tarp, but the bottom was sitting on the ground, so the bottom side of it needs some tightening and I'm going to reinforce it with some tongue and groove redwood that I have in the barn.

I better get busy.

Hi Susie,
Why don't you try checking with Sears. I used to go to their parts house & order instruction books for their old sewing machines when I would buy one at a yard sale......
