Hi,
I was wondering how you refill your feeders, do you refill before all gone or do you dump and start with all fresh feed?
Since Saturday I have just added more but do you think it may be getting stale and that I should fill with all fresh?

Thanks!

I'm still using a small chick feeder so my teenagers eat that up pretty quick. If there's any left in the bottom of the dish, I just dump it over in the floor. It's usually not very much at all and they'll scratch around and eat what they want.

I just add feed. However, I don't fill it all the way up either. Just to a third or so.

I fill mine twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the evenings and there is usually just crumbs and I dump that and fill it back up with fresh food.

I had been just adding more to it since we got them Monday, but today I noticed it was getting pretty gunky so I dumped the tiny bit that was left cleaned it out and refilled.

I fill morning and evening. Whatever is left in the feeder is dumped on the bottom of the brooder and my chicks happily scratch around until that is all gone.

My chicks were pigs! (I apologize in advance to all swine enthusiasts) They spilled more than they ate, but it was rare that I found poop in the food dispenser. I always just filled it back up (unless there was poo, then I dumped that area but not everything) and they kept eating and spilling. I raised it up as they continued to grow and now the food dispenser is sitting on top of an upturned flower pot so it is a reach, but they can eat. They don't spill much anymore so I don't have to fill as often. Soon though, I will be switching to a larger feeder and new feed for my tweenagers. Aren't chickies grand!
