Ours AND theirs...

We are in the process of putting up a 8 foot wide by 16 foot long Run for our Coop that we are building. It currently has weeds and grass in it and I was wondering if I should use my tractor box blade to remove the weeds and grass and take it down to dirt or to just leave it in there and the chickens with naturally mow it down for me? I thought about putting Weed be Gone or some other pesticide on it but then thought twice and realized that that stuff stays in the ground for a long time and may affect the chickens I put in there.

Oh by all means leave the stuff there for the chickens to play with

It will also stabilize the soil and decrease the extent to which it becomes a mudpit (or at least slow its progress in that direction)

The chickens will make it dirt eventually, but may's well let them have some fun; also if you let THEM make it into dirt, it won't be as muddy as if YOU do.

Good luc, have fun,

Pat
