I've read that citrus is not good for chickens? Why? We have several citrus trees. Our girls have their own secure yard, but I was wondering, can I put the raked leaves in their yard? Just not the fruit?

I guess the acid is what people think about
there is no proven information that I have read about it

as for the leaves if something is bad for them in citrus I would be ware of the leaves
as with tomatoes and potatoe vines it is the vines that are toxic

you have to decide what you feel is best for your chickens

IF SOME ONE HAS SUBSTANCIAL PROOF OF THIS MYTH PLEASE SITE THE PROOF
email me any questions

Thanks Glenda, I too would like to read more info on this. I also read avocados peels are not good for chickens? Why to that one also. I rake those leaves and they are the spread in the girls yard and they relish each new helping of leaves. I DIDN'T know about tomato VINES. I trim my tomato plants and give the girls all those trimmings. Perhaps I should rethink that as well....

I know avacodo peels is on the main list as it has toxins in them also
yes do not give tomatoe and potatoe vines
also the green part on potatoes them selves
do not throw them to the chickens

maybe your chickens have been fortunate they didn't know this
ANY QUESTIONS EMAIL ME

I believe that avocado leaves are also poisonous from what I remember reading... my MIL was trying to be nice and fed my bunny avocado leaves while I was on my honeymoon which I believe is what killed the poor thing....
