If they are small with flat sides on them they will continue to pass... and usually dont cause problems. The flattened sides are an indication that their are more because they rub or form up against each other. This from the vet at the time.

I did a boat load of research on them after my mare died... there is more info on them now and I am sure you have researched it as well. But some say NO alfalfa alfalfa is badddd... some say diet has no effect... some say sand particles cause them....

They are started by an irritant... and the reason they grow is because the body is trying to protect themselves. Like an oyster with a pearl. But I suspect its the individual horses physiology that predetermines if they are going to form them... and really there is little you can do to predict and prevent other than keeping up with a good diet and digestive system. Keeping things moving through on its regular scheduled poo program. But that is what we all strive for.

There have been two equines in my life named Goldie. The first was a Shetland pony that daddy bought at a horse sale because he thought she was a pregnant palomino. Turned out she was FULL of worms, malnourished, not pregnant, and shed out a beautiful dappled grey in the spring. She had obviously never been touched by humans. She came off the truck with a lasso around her neck, daddy hanging on to the end of the rope. Up the hill, right through all of the clothes on the line, and right through Moma's garden. It took two men 2 hours to get her in the barn. Daddy said DO NOT GO IN HER STALL. Then he left to go to the city for his work week. By the end of the week she was eating out of my hand and I could pat her neck. By the end of the next week I could lead her around with a big dog collar I had put on her. She wouldn't let me put a halter on her.
To be continued.......

If you can find a non destructive testing place in your area.... They have exray machines that can and do exray concrete and metal constructions. They may exray it for you for free out of curiosity... Thats what my dad did.

When they say stone .... they mean stone. like concrete...
