Regarding the Horses in our lives...

NICE.

will it be made out of steel or aluminum or a combination?

steel I dont have the engineering expertise for Aluminum Size vs Strength.. Besides Aluminum is hard to keep a good finish on. And contrary to popular belief its not corrosion free.

I do not have a problem though using high tech plastics though. Not in stress areas but in bearing surfaces. Delrin is a very tough and self lubricating material and excellent for wear surfaces

I worked in both Aerospace and Telecommunications so tublar steel sheet metal and plastics. Even composites. It would be tempting to do an all carbon fiber design like a bicycyle... and that would be possible for show vehicles or vehicles that would never get bounced about off of hard objects.

Carbon construction is Tough and flexible ONly if the surfaces arent compromised. Say for instance for shafts. I would choose wood in the form of hickory over anything else

I got a call about a horse needing some groceries, and hoof care.
The landlord let me in the pasture but the owner was no where in sight, he said he'd call when he saw them.
The pictures don't even show how bad it is, his top line is showing.
Really hoping to save him, my heart aches leaving him there another night.

Id say hes about a three body scale wise. Where 1 is emaciated 5 is perfect 9 is obese. Hooves are ragged but Not too bad a decent trim would take away most of the chipping. He definately needs groceries I would like to see a photo from the side

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henneke_horse_body_condition_scoring_system

There are contributing factors that show up this time of year
Age
Worms
Teeth
status (do other horses chase him off his feed)

The back up to the hip looks in good shape I dont see spine showing up where the back connects to the hip.

Gaunt flanks could be dehydration. IF there is no salt available

Not excuses but possible causes.

I personally would rather see a bit of rib Not Thin but fit.

He's in a pasture alone, where he's eaten everything possible.
Landlord said he's lucky to get a flake of alfalfa a day if the 12 year old kids remember to feed him. He lives on the property next door and has been watching everything.

He definitely needs his teeth done, I stuck my hand into his mouth and felt hooks.
That crack worries me a little bit, but my farrier is a good natural trimmer and is ready for him.

I saw no salt, and even had to fill his water because it was empty.

You have to go through Animal control Please... To make things on the up and up.

Help them fill the case then get food to him....

Water and food.... Document get animal control on board.

I have been reported to animal control. My horse was down two hundred pounds I had pulled her from a boarding facility here in San Diego because of it. Believe me I was furious. But some one saw her and turned me in.

Mind you Two hundred pounds on my horse puts her at about 1800 lbs. She was about the same score as the horse above. BUT at my house I free feed Bermuda. and She has a 100 gallon self filling waterer. I wormed her a double dose because the stress from her weight brought on mange. one dose followed by an additional dose ten days later.

By the time animal control came out she was just a little ribby. They left me a note all was fine.

But if that horse had simply disappeared without due process there would have been ..... to pay.

Really kind of you to intervene. Deb is right, you should have AC document the horse's condition. I'd be concerned with the hoof crack as well. It could travel without a shoe or epoxy. What county are you in? I worked AC in Riverside for years. They can give the horse owner a to do list including hoof and dental care, deworming and improved BCS score. Please let me know if I can help.

Definitely going to get animal control involved, and hoping we can get the ball rolling tomorrow instead of Monday.

But I know he can make it a few more days. Just can't wait to have him in my yard, I knew him a few years ago, when he had a different owner.
