@perchie.girl I remember being led around on ponies when I was younger, but I wasn't very enthralled by that. I didn't really appreciate riding until I actually did it by myself, just me and my own horse. Unforgettable.

When my daughter turned 16, she announced all her friends were getting cars. I told her she could choose between the horse she had wanted for ever, or the car, I couldn't afford both. She never hesitated....... the horse won hands down!!

I credit horses to bringing me out of my shell and giving me confidence at twelve...

Hey how many of you remember that first ride ever.... After my first ride I had to wait till I was twelve... but I practiced.... made my own horse out of a saw horse a chaise lounge pad a broom and some rope... I rode for hours out in the back yard.

My first ride ever was on a large stud donkey at a riding stable on the military base we were stationed at. I was 9. And graduated to a horse quickly.

I was just over on COTH and someone had a thread about their chicken with a crop problem and I had to check and make sure I was in the right forum!!!!

Anyone here a fellow tack queen?

Right now I have two English saddles three harnesses... um to full harnesses and one with a few parts missing... I sold my light horse gear I had a Steuben Tristan Dressage saddle that was a collectors Item... and I sold it to a collector to a fair price... Thirty years old and I was its only owner...

Having a horse that measures 44 inches from corner of mouth to corner of mouth .... changed my whole paradigm on Gear and Tack. Shes actually too small for a standard draft halter... So I go for the Warmblood sized ones... With a buckle adjustment under the chin.

I also have two vehicles... One Hickory Road cart... really is a show cart... not suitable for back country rutted and rocky roads. I also have one Forecart... The Amish version of the working end of a tractor. There is hitch points on the back for all sorts of farm tools ranging from Fifth wheel wagons to Brush hogs and maneur spreaders...

I would love to have a four wheeled vehicle... Like a Waggonette or a roof Seat Brake... I wish (the roof seat starts at around ten grand) Or even just an all steel trail wagon... They are soo much easier to hitch if you are by yourself.

It was very hard for me to do... but I was gratified that my pieces went to homes where they would be used and cared for...

I had a western saddle aeons ago that I wish I had kept... It was a Carol saddle all smooth leather... It had bucking rolls on it... it was probably at least twenty years old when I bought it... But those stirrups were a perfect fit and gave a free range of motion for trail riding. But I got it in my head I was going to ride english for ever... There were times when i wished I had that saddle back. especailly brush popping down the shear face of a mountain... having to do about six switch backs in order to drop down six feet... Scary when your riding an english and your horses head disappears and all you can see are your toes... Just shut your eyes and hope he doesnt take a misstep... The gal I was riding with did a man from snowy river imitation on that hill... I am soo glad my horse had sense...

Just make sure the stuff is clean to within an inch of its life and post it on ebay or Craigslst... if you can show it off on an acutal horse too so they can get an idea of what it will look like on theirs.

My first ride I was 2 and was on the back of Prince...my gramps black Percheron. Yes, it was LOVE at first ride. My niece's first ride was age 3 on my Arab mare Majiid. She went on to riding lessons and her own pony.

I started out in a dressage saddle in 1989 and did everything include trail riding in it. Had it for 17 years and sold it for what I paid for it. I had a western saddle that didn't fit my TWH, sold it and went thru 4 saddles I bought and sold because they didn't fit her. She outgrew the one I kept (a Tucker), sold that and 4 more western saddles bought and sold due to not fitting. I ended up with an Abetta High Cantle (cheapest of the bunch) that fit us both perfectly so it stayed. Funny that I was buying lightly used $2500.00 for around $1,000 each time, and the right one was a $400 synthetic.

Recently I wanted to go back to dressage and bought a saddle and it didn't fit me. My gf had a dressage saddle that didn't fit her horse and I tried that and it was a match made in heaven. Buffalo leather, deep seat, etc. In fact it fits me so well that come hellor high water, I will not be unseated. This saddle is much easier to stay in that any other saddle I've had. This saddle will absolutely not let me sit in the wrong position. The most comfortable spot is the correct one.

Dressage saddles look very comfortable. I wish I had an income to buy my own saddle because right now I'm in a used Billy Cook western pleasure saddle that my dad bought me. I want to try English so badly.

Another way to test out to see if you like english is to take a riding lesson or two in one. My old dressage saddle was nothing like the modern ones.. No Knee rolls or built up seat in the back and It had a standard billet system... Three billets instead of two very long ones.

I like three for round bodied horses that have no withers. The girth is wider and you don't have to crank it down in order for the saddle to stay in place.

Used english saddles can be rather inexpensive... An All Purpose is an excellent choice because you can do dressage with them or pop over low jumps and be secure..
