this is my first time hatching eggs and I need to know if a 40 watt lightbulb will work. The setup I have is that the eggs are in a cat kennel on a soft, fuzzy blanket with the heat source above them. Will this work or do I need to do something else? Also, any other tips or advice about hatching would be appreciated

No, this probably isn't going to work. An incubator needs to have constant, stable temperatures and humidity. You need a thermometer to measure what the temperature is and a hygrometer to measure the humidity and a way to control both of those.

You have no way to control the temp with a light bulb. They will overheat and dry out.

Incubation is made of 4 things :
1. Suitable controlled temp
2. Suitable humidity
3. Enough turnning at least 3times/24 hours
4.ventilation
Non of this things, exept ventilation is present in your settings.
