regurgitation after cutting heads off?

that's why the recommendation is to starve of food over night so that doesn't happen

only leave water

and process in morning

the crop was full and leaked out the gullet

why would that happen??
If there is food in the crop, then it can flow out of the mouth, or if beheaded the esophagus, once the bird is dead and the sphincter is relaxed. I had a big CX that I did not take off feed the night before (long story), and after he died the food in his crop poured out his mouth for about 2 or 3 minutes. I finally massaged the crop to get the food out faster. I will always withhold feed the night before because it took an already unpleasant task to a new level of unpleasantness.

The important part is the meat is still good to eat, and the food is easily washed off.

Edited to change trachea to esophagus

Thank you, it did have a hugely full crop... thats what i though, the hubby however FREAKED OUT thinking something was really wrong...
You're Welcome. That, plus a distended abdomen which I suspect was ascites, was one of the reasons I opted to just skin and only harvest the wings, legs and thighs, along with cutting the breast off the bone. I didn't want to take any chances on nicking full intestines.
