We are looking to rehome two of our ladies. Of late they have become not the best flock members and have begun terrorizing one of the other hens. The hen they are terrorizing is blind and around 10 years old. She has always been a member of the flock even with her deficit. Recently two of the year old flock members have started to attack the blind chicken and there are concerns it’s an attempt to kill her. Obviously the blind chicken is at a permanent disadvantage and will never be able to defend herself. The two we would like to rehome are year old Jersey Giants and are otherwise awesome birds. If anyone can help please reach out!

Sorry that you were joining us under such unpleasant conditions. I have a hen who is half blind but still manages to hold a status in the flock.
Have you considered making a smaller enclosure for just her and perhaps one other hen that does not terrorize her so she has some company?

I have thought about it, especially due to her age and limitations. The way their enclosure is designed, separating her and a few others works in the short term but not the long term. I’m still working on options but rehoming is probably the only long term solution. We have ordered a spiked vest for the blind chicken so that if she does get attacked the offenders won’t want to do it again. That’s the other temporary long term fix. Fingers crossed!

I’m sure there’s a chance it could blind or injure the attacking chicken. It’s not really much of an option but it’s a spiked vest with small plastic spikes that are meant to make it more uncomfortable to attack vs inflict injury. We hope to never have to try it and hopefully we can find a new home for the two offending ladies or miraculously stop attacking.
