Rehoming

If you can hang on until a couple weeks after easter, there are usually a disturbing number of ducklings & chicks being given away once people realise they are nosiy, messy, & stinky to have in the house as opposed to the cute dyed fluff balls marketed at easter. You might want to post some flyers at feed stores, grocery stores, etc. You may get lucky & find someone who was toying with the idea of getting rid of their birds but hadn't gotten around to advertising yet. Also check w/ 4H & FFA clubs.

I am in Salisbury Maryland and I really need a male duck for my little Aflac girl..

One drake to one duck is usually asking for trouble (injury to your girl from over-mating). If she's lonely and you aren't looking for fertile eggs, then I would get another female duck rather than a drake.

oh, I didn't realize that. I have 12 chickens and she is the only duck, given to me by a neighbor because I have a pond, I couldn't say no. do you think a female would help her? She always hangs out with the chickens but is always trying to get my rooster to mate with her. It is funny to see but also makes me feel sad for her

She would be happy having a female.

let me ask you this. If I got a couple of baby chicks do you think she would take care of them?
No I don't and she probably wouldn't take to a duckling either, that would have to be done slowly and over time she'd accept a duckling/duck. I doubt baby chicks would do anything for her. Have you looked on Craigslist? Pet Finder, Rescues?

X2. Anything is possible but it's pretty unlikely. Finding adult ducks is pretty darn easy in most parts of the country. Craiglist, feed store bulletin boards, grocery store bulletin boards, local animal control, etc. Not sure what kind she is...breed isn't important but 'type' usually is. Muscovies and normal ducks won't do much for each other and runners are a toss-up for non-runners.

Here's one ad I found in 15 seconds of searching http://easternshore.craigslist.org/grd/4398450078.html (and DANG! that's a good deal! Wish I could find laying khaki hens around here for $8!)
