Hi all!

Luna, my BCM, had sour crop, which I think I have cured. She has been away from the rest of the flock for 1.5-2 weeks. We are traveling out of town leaving this evening for 4 days, so I am trying to figure out what to do with her. Her crop felt empty this morning, so I fed her one last dose of micronazole to be safe. I put her back in with the other 12 girls. I just noticed one of my Easter Eggers going after her a little bit. Luna is now sitting on top of one of the coops out of harms way. So my options are leave her in the coop, put her back in the dog kennel in our garage with plenty of food and water or bring her with in a smaller kennel. She is pretty active, so I am not sure how happy she'd be in the smaller kennel, but it is an option. Any thoughts or suggestions? Do you think the others will start to go after her? I have 2 coops in a 10 ft by 10ft run which is attached to a 10ft by 20ft run.

Thanks for any help or suggestions!

I know my chickens' different temperaments quite well, and that makes it somewhat possible to predict behavior. However, if I had a sick chicken that had to be re-integrated, I sure wouldn't leave it to chance by going out of town and leaving her among them with no protective measure.

In other words, don't assume she will be all right among the flock in your absence. If you had taken the step several days ago to place her back with the flock, you'd be on better footing knowing whether she could hold her own.

Now, I'd say she might be better off going with you, although chickens are about as willing travelers as cats are.

She may need to be reintegrated so it might be best for her to stay in an enclosure separate from the others. She might not be happy about it but better than coming back to find her torn up by the others.
