Just thought I'd pop in and reintroduce myself--been gone for a long time.
We live in SW Pa, and started with chickens a bunch of years ago. Our first batch of 5 went to live with my husband's friend when our daughter went off to college.
Our second batch we got about four ? years ago. Got those ones from Meyer Hatchery. Our Delaware developed a leg problem and had to be put down, so we were down to six. Then a year or so ago our gold-laced Wyandotte (Wynona) got a bad case of bumblefoot and despite treating it we were unsuccessful--our DD's BF dispatched her to "chicken heaven". Also in 2020 we lost both of our Barred Rocks, Hazel & Marigold, to a hawk. So now we are down to Rosemary (Buff Orp), Bena (Black Austrolorp), and Rhoda (RI Red). All are doing well (though Bena has bouts of broodiness) and still laying well.
We got four Easter Eggers about three weeks ago, and looks like one is a cockerel so I'm trying to find him a new home. The remaining girls will be called Esther, Martha, and Irene, after my husband's and my grandmothers.
My username isn't accurate anymore! Our dog, retired racer Phoebe, died in 2019, and we have two cats, not one! Though we should be back up to six chicks, once our little guy is rehomed.
