Hello everyone!!! My name is DeAnna and I joined 5-6 months ago. I haven't posted much since then because we were still in Germany had a while to wait before getting our chickens. So I have spent a lot of my online time reading and learning. I have learned so much about keeping chickens from the members here, thank you all for sharing your knowledge.

Anyways, we are now back stateside and although our original plan was to buy a home with some land, we ended up renting a house on about 2 acres out in the country. Our new landlord has no problem with me having chickens and a nice big garden.

We will be getting the coop built after we pick up the kids and dogs from grandmas. And I have placed an order for 15 baby chicks to be delivered the week of August 31.
I've ordered 5 Easter Egger hens, 1 Easter Egger rooster, and 3 each - Black Australorp, Light Brahma, and White Leghorn, all hens.

I can't wait to get them!!!

Are there any members in or near Chapman, Kansas?

Welcome back!

You've had to wait a long time to get started, so nice you can finally get your chicks. If you have any questions or just want to share a picture of the new flock, feel free to jump in.

Good luck to you!

Welcome back to BYC, DeAnna. Glad you decided to touch base with us. You're getting some great breeds. The first breed I ever had were Light Brahmas (about 50 years ago), and they were gentle giants. Black Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. White Leghorns tend to be high strung and flighty, and hate being handled, but they are egg laying machines. You should get loads of large, white eggs from those three girls. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your chicks.

Welcome back - we saved a place on the roost for you. Sounds like things are going well. Hope you will update when you are settled in with kids, dogs, chickens.

Thank you!!

We are mostly settled in our new home. Our household goods got here Friday, just in time to make the brooder from some of the moving boxes.
My absolutely adorable chicks got here this morning. All seem to be healthy. They've all been eating, drinking and running around.
They are so funny!!

Here's a few pics!
