Pavo of course means peafowl.

For Green Peafowl:
Muticus means "curtailed, docked"

For India Blue Peafowl:
Cristatus means "tufted, crested"

So the scientific names are based on the crest of the species.

So it's not like some said ... muticus = mute.

I looked for another animal whose Latin name is muticus.
I found a spider from Tanzania: King baboon spider - Pelinobius muticus.
The first feature of this spider is that it's an aggressive ... it attacks ... like Pavo muticus! ...Thai Boxing!

So Pavo Tranquilla ... or Pavo mutus ... but not Pavo Muticus ! ... that's the problem !

This is a mistake that passes from generation to generation of breeders ... there is never someone who makes a small test!
