Relocating broody hen

Thanks for all the great advice! The hen has spent the last 4 nites & 5 days in the nesting box. The Only time she went back to roost was right after we moved her to a different area, a separate brooder box. She's only left the nest to quickly eat and drink. So I think she's serious.

OK so the Marans eggs are shipped today. We went back out there tonite after dark, moved her and her one egg from her nesting box back to the brooder box (aka dog kennel) with plenty of nesting materials, a little food and water. All sides except the front are covered, she can't get out this time. She seemed to settle right down on top of that egg, didn't move around at all. So will just leave her there , the eggs will be here Thurs. do I put them under her right away, or wait a few hours?

Let the eggs you are going to put under her warm up before giving them to her. A good way to break a broody is to put them on something cold and you don't want that happening!!

Well am so disappointed, marans eggs were supposed to come today, priority mail, but did not. When I track them, last info is from yesterday. Miss Broody hen still sitting on that one egg.

The PO sometimes po`s everyone and it`s getting worse. Good luck with that delivery. You still have time. Usually a hen will set long enough to hatch guinea, or waterfowl eggs, which take 28 days. Sometimes they will set longer. Don`t fret.......Pop

Update: Just came from post office hunting my eggs!! They have no record of them since they hit the Atlanta post office. These came from Garry Farms, in GA, was shipped priority mail and insured. Its not the money I'm worried about, just hope they are still good when they get here. The lady at our post office said would keep a lookout for it if comes in today or in the morning will call me so I can go pick up instead of mail carrier bringing them. Just so frustrating(sp?)!!!!

The PO is very s l o w these days.

My shipped eggs took 7-8 days to get here and they were only coming from PA and FL (Priority Mail).

Fortunately I candled the eggs last night and only a FEW were duds (Yeah, I was surprised!).

Funny thing is that this is the best incubation rate I've had so far with shipped eggs.

My last two broodies, I left in their nestboxes of their choosing. I was afraid if I moved them they would break broodiness. Only after the babies hatched did I move moms to an area I choose. They stayed put with babies after the move, no problems.
