Just found this pulling weeds from out of under our grape vines. Amazing how good old metal is still solid.
Anyone know what it is?
Mid-evil torture device? Metal forging tool I imagine? Maybe it was used to grab a ember out of the fireplace to light a pipe?

Only from tv. Heck we didn't get cell phones till about five yrs ago, and still don't have cell service at our house.

Yeah, but if you don't have a phone it can be scary. There is no land line here and when the cell service goes down , i hate it!

Looks like tongs. Might be like you said, to pick up an ember.

I agree, looks like a fireplace tool. I grew up with an actual stone fire place and wrought iron fireplace tools. You don't see either of these anymore unless it's an old/historic house (at least here in DE) - they are all decorative and either electric or gas lit.

I love this thread! Although I'm (sadly) part of the generation that has grown up with all these new fangled gadgets I've always thought I was born in the wrong time period (love the 1910-40s). Thanks for starting this thread @Mace Gill .

Ya we have a real life wood burning fireplace that we use. Must admit we do also use a couple space heaters too.
Lots of wood burning fireplaces in use around here.

We heat half of our house with a wood stove.

In VA we heated the whole house with the wood stove. Had back up gas fireplaces but rarely used them. We have a smaller wood stove here in VA, so we will see how it goes.
