I've seen lately where several people have bought or adopted birds and just put them in with the flock with no quarantine period to check for disease (note, check for it, not treat for it). Please read this thread again to refresh your memories. There is another one with MissPrissy as the author-search for that one; couldn't locate it at the moment.

Thanks for bringing this up again, it can save a lot of people a lot of heartache.
, and save the lives of everyones flocks.

Biosecurity is a HUGE issue, and everyone needs to learn all they can on it.

I bought a nice EE hen from an auction a week or so ago. I isolated her with food and water (with a weak electrolyte addition) and in the morning she was DEAD !! Yep, DEAD !! I have no idea what happened, it was not cold and I am VERY careful on what I feed the flock. I take my feed to the barn directly from the feed store and put it in a wine Carafe' (holds about 125 pounds) with the lid tightly on. I am a definite avocate of the isolation process for any bird you buy from somewhere else. We have a 4 hole cage and a 3 hole cage lined up on top of barrels for this purpose. We can take them off and disinfect them outside the barn. We never buy more birds than we can isolate. My flock is very diversified and some of my birds can not be replaced without a lot time and money.
