Remodeling a coop! Ideas?

Yes, 8 x 10 not including overhang.

I am planning on bleaching and painting. i love the idea of the vinyl floor!

Our average lows in the winter are 10 to 20 F at night and about 30 to 40 F during the day. But occasionally we get an unexpected drop into the below 0 range a couple nights per winter. Is this too cold to do the bumpout nesting boxes?

We have similar winter temperatures and we did bump out boxes.
I used this building technique:

They work great.

You should be fine with the bump outs. B/C you won't be leaving eggs in the box over night. 10 - 20* at night is a winter heat wave for us. We often have weeks at a time that don't ever get up to 0*F. (24/7!) Just be sure that you have plenty of bedding in the nest boxes. Hay provides lots of insulation value. You can also get more "insulation" bang for your buck by using at least 1 community nest. That way, if the birds are all laying in the same nest, the eggs are hen covered for more hours during the day.

Do you have any pictures of this? I like that idea.

I live in Swamp East Missouri in the foothills and my Roll Out Nest Box Mk3 it totally outside the coop. Having said that the eggs don't spend the night in the nest box and usually less than a few hours will an egg sit in the nest box. So the answer depends on how often you can collect the eggs during the winter. Keep in mind the coop does not need heat!

If I had to pick from vinyl and Black Jack the winner every time is Black Jack. No risk of tearing the floor with implements and much easier to install.

The eggs will be collected every afternoon. But I could have someone at the house collect them during the day as well.

Also, what is Black Jack? I guess I'm not familiar with it.
