I've had a dog attack this morning and have 3 chickens removed of their skin on their backs. 2 are pretty bad. Their muscle tissue is exposed and bloody but not bleeding outright. I am giving them water, they can't get it on their own, one will eat a little when I hold up food and one will not. The one who is not eating will only lie there with eyes closed, and look at me occasionally. They are indoors and isolated. I'm not sure what action to take. Would stitching only stress them out more? Is diluted betadine ok to put on them? Can I wrap them? Can they get any pain medicine or antibiotics? I don't want them to lie there and suffer, but I can't tell at which point they ARE just suffering and should be relieved. And I DON"T want to put them down if they can make it. Any medical advice or opinions on this controversy would be gratefully appreciated. These are egg laying hens and I had not realized how much a part of our family they had become; but we are dealing with a financial issue and sadly cannot afford vet care for the chickens. Thanks for any advice.
