My hen is due to hatch her eggs out any day. I have her and the rooster housed in a triangle style yard cage. Will he kill the chicks when they hatch? Should I move him out? If I move him out will it possibly disturb my hen, and will she abandon her nest?

It pays to be cautious if you have reason to believe the rooster might harm the chicks. In most cases removing the rooster will not cause the hen to abandon her eggs.

Hens like to take their chicks away from the rest of the birds in a flock to keep them safe from pecking, several feet if not yards away. Mama hen would probably prefer it if you did remove him.
