Hi everyone!
I am really really new to the chicken world!
I moved out of the city this summer -- finally, my haven in the country! We bought a small straw house on the prairie surrounded by a few acres of trees. I love it! Best of all I can now get the chickens I've wanted for so long... right????
Wrong!
I found out AFTER we moved that the small town we're living right on the edge of does not allow them ... yup... I'm an arctic scientist that can fire a 12 gauge, rehab aggressive rottweilers, scare off polar bears, cauterize your wound in the remote wilderness (all with a manicure btw) ... but I cried when I couldn't have chickens LOL!
So I lasted a few months ..... then broke the rules
I now have two of the cutest little girls you've ever seen -- one barred rock, and one dark brahma (Claira and Jinny). I've built them a coop/palace in my back yard where no one can see them .... and love them to bits!
I'm happy enough with just the two - they are basically pets.
Jinny is very sweet and 'purrs' when you cuddle her, and Claira is all personality! She runs up and jumps at me when I bring her favorite treats in in the morning, and follows me everywhere
So as long as I keep the coop clean and don't do anything stupid like get a noisy rooster ... I shall remain the 'renegade chicken keeper'.
I have learned SO much from this site -- thank you all!!
Look forward to reading more
