Renting a Wizbang Plucker

I think it would be a good idea to get both a cleaning/damage deposit AND a copy of their driver's license. Sometimes trying to track people down after the fact to get them to pay is difficult even if you have all their information. But I don't know about the $20 holding fee unless you find you're overwhelmed with requests to rent your machine. Would you also consider taking some of the dressed birds in exchange for the rent payment?

Happyfeetfarm, do you really charge folks $5 for each bird they pluck in your machine??? That sounds like a lot, some processing places charge less to both pluck & clean & bag a bird entirely. That's great if you can get folks to pay that, but you couldn't get that from me.

I like the idea of getting both the deposits and drivers license info as well as the liability waiver. The holding fee was just thrown out there, not sure if I would really need it. This all seems a bit much, it seems like a lot of hassle just to try and make a couple bucks.

It could be worth your while. Motel Chix got 20 rentals @ $40 each in this year alone. That should help you recoup your costs of building, even if you have to replace parts more often. A lot will depend on the demand for such a service in your area, and the individuals who do use your machine. You'll want to take measures to protect your investment and also your liability for any injuries incurred by using it. Is it legal to have renters simply sign a statement saying they will use it at their own risk and not hold you liable at all? That way you don't have to write up a detailed contract listing all the possible stupid things people could do & injure themselves with it.

That would be my concern, typing up a liability waiver and missing something stupid and in turn getting sued over that. I wish I could say something simple, such as. Use at own risk, owner is not responsible for damage done to property or person while operating this device.

There's really no reason why you couldn't just photocopy someone elses. I have one scanned into a .tif file. If you want it, PM me with your email and I'll send it to you.
