They can be sneaky, they don't want a predator to see where they go to bed and can be really hard to spot once there. Don't blame yourself for him tricking you, they are experts. We gave up looking. I really hope he shows up in the morning. If he does, we will wrangle him inside and no free ranging for a week. I was watching him, I really thought he was going in with the girls.
Did he go in on his own?Rooster successfully inside for the night, thank goodness!
Ok. This is why I would have said keep him contained for at least 3 days. Only 3 days... so he knows home. We do it for cats and dogs, I do it for chickens.A new twist. Our new rooster hung out all day, escorted the ladies to the coop at bedtime(which he was in and out of all day) but he didn't go in. Instead he went into the thickest part of the woods. So now we are looking for him with flashlights.
Well, I threw a few worms near the door, backed up, once he came to check it out, I approached and he ran into the open coop. Pretty sure it wasn't his idea, but he walked in on his own, lol. I learned my lesson. But hearing him crow at dark thirty this morning was a beautiful sound!Did he go in on his own?
