Reposting from different forum: chick with swollen foot!

She looks a little perkier today. If she is better tomorrow, then I would try soaking the foot in a warm epsom salts bath to see if that will help reduce the swelling. The initial worry was that she was in such rough shape, that getting her a little wet would be shocking. I would still take care not to get her too wet and make sure she is thoroughly dry before putting her back in the brooder.

Do you have any photos of what her poop looks like today?

I will take a photo when I get back home, but her poop isn't as mucusy but it still looks lumpy and sticks to her feathers. Almost like pastey butt, but it's only stuck to the tips of her feathers and her vent area is clean.

Her foot is still swollen. And she crosses them a lot. She has been sleeping a lot too. I dont know if that is because she doesnt have a playmate or if it's a sign of her getting worse.

I dont feel any weight ggain, but I feel food in her crop. I see her eating but I cannot tell if she is drinking her water even though I have shown her where it is. I do use the medicine dropper to give her some of the water. She isnt trying to drink from it but she will swallow water when she feels it in her beak. She still chirps but it isnt as often as before when she would chirp constantly. I did soak her foot last night in Epsom salt and it may have helped a little.

It looks like she has her feathers puffed out, but they arent her feathers are big because she is supposed to be larger since she is 8 weeks old, but she is the size of a 4 week old chick at most.

You're still giving her Corid water right? You direct dosed her in addition to making the mixed Corid water available?
If she's not drinking very well, I would syringe the Corid water into her several times a day.
What are you feeding her?

The foot still does look swollen, any idea if she mashed it in something? If not, then likely the swelling is from infection. If you have a vet, that would be best since she may need antibiotics to help clear that up.

Sadly, sometimes young birds fail to thrive, even at this age they have something else going on and they are not able to make it.

I honestly do not know what she could have hurt herself on. There is nothing sharp or dangerous where she is being kept it is a pet carrier with a towel on the bottom. She has been in the carrier for about a week before I noticed her foot. When I checked on her during sundown she was up and moving and had tipped over the water. I do not know if she was trying to drink it or step on it, but I wonder if she has her times mixed up even though she get clear day light?

And yes I did give her direct corid along with the corid water.

How is the pet carrier made? Can you place her water station higher so she doesn't know it over? Maybe use cage cups?

I was just watching her for a bit. She is drinking a sip here and there on her own. Is there anyway to get antibiotics over the counter or something similar. The nearest vet that can treat animals other than dogs cats and horses is over an hour away and are verrryyy expensive. Just to see the vet without treatment or a prescription is $140. Her leg isnt hot to the touch, but I think it might have been a little hot 2 days ago when it was really swollen. It is obviously still swollen though.

I gave her a little fermented cabbage I made and mashed up tomato along with her chick crumble. She didnt eat the egg I had given her, but I will try again tomorrow.
