Reprogramming Hovabator Genesis 1588

I wasn't thrown off one bit by the instructions...I just didn't understand them.
Confused? I'm generally confused most of the time anyway, didn't notice much difference on that point!

Was anyone else confused by the two conflicting instruction sheets?

Thanks for all the help,

This is my first time with the 1588. When started it held 100.2 to 101. I turned off #4 and turned on #3 and now it is holding 99.3 to 99.8 with 50% to 55% humidity....joe

I was told that the auto egg turners also bump the temps up a little...

After my first poor hatch, I decided I better get a digital thermo/hydrometer just to be sure.

I got this one from walmart:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10671021

was a total of less than $10, including shipping. There's someone on ebay trying to sell the same thing for twice that, so buy it from walmart if you're going to get one.

It was recommended to me by several people. It seems to work great, though I don't know how accurate it is. Still recommend it, because the bulb thermo is just so hard to read accurately, even if it's displaying accurately...

now this device does not have a probe to put inside a water wiggler for accurite humidity within the egg does it??

There is nothing in an egg turner that is capable of raising the temperature.

actually the turner motor puts out heat. I consider this as static heat which helps the temp from dropping faster..

don't worry about setting eggs in the slots near the motor, it is not that hot..

to "calibrate" that el cheapo thermometer just disregard all the numbers on it and make a mark at where the mercury level is when it is 99.5 measuring with your accurate thermometer..

I also have a 1588. started it today. want to put eggs in tonight or tomorrow. this is my first hatch. It has been running for about 4 hrs. I put in a digital thermometer and hydrometer. currently reads 99.4 and 48 humidity. earlier it was 100.1. is this all ok?

Did you change any of the switches to get it to drop?

nope just plugged it in. right now it reads 99.4 and 50 per cent. it has been running since this morning. the numbers are why I decided to set tonight.

Run your 'bator at least 8 hours to let it stablize. I was too anxious and changed mine right away and had to change it back to four. Your room temp will cause it to change if it gets too cool or too hot. Adding cool water will cause the temp to drop. Adding hot water will cause it to rise but these are only temporary changes. Remember to plug and unplug your vent you help regulate.

I've done several hatches in my 1588, the cheap thermometer that came with it is dead on. However, I purchased a good one from a cigar store the hygrometer is within 1% and the temp in right on.

I tried several of the cheap ones from Walmart, even the ones that everybody else was using and mine still were not accurate.

I've also never had to change my dip switches.

However, my humidity was always too high and I had gooy hatches, so I stopped using the place they say to put the water and I just use a smaller one on the side. Now I have very clean hatches.
