They are 6 weeks old? Forget a heater, they're big kids now. I put chicks out at 4-5 weeks each spring, no heat. They did fine in temps 40s. Probably 30s is okay. And yours being 6 weeks are fully feathered....They are wearing down jackets.

Yes, I'm thinking something like that and incorporating the heating pad.You can make them a "huddle box" and see if they use it.....
So they still have heat at 6 weeks....and are in your house?I'm afraid of taking them out of their warm little brooder and into the cold.
The room they are in is about 70 degrees, and they do have a sweeter heater that they love to get under still. The little coop is in one of the runs. The run might be too big, but I can limit their space with temp fencing. This is great advice. I'll turn off the heat first. It's a room in the garage so the windows don't open, but it generally stays very cool in there if I turn the heat off.So they still have heat at 6 weeks....and are in your house?
Have they been outside at all?
Turn off the heater, open a window in the brooder room to start acclimating them to the outside temps, let them spend the day in the coop for a few days, then give them access to the run too(assuming there is one).
Really? Why? Can I just shock them into 30 degree nights? All unnecessary.
So you'll be integrating too?The little coop is in one of the runs. The run might be too big, but I can limit their space with temp fencing. This is great advice. .
Do it now. Do not turn it back on tonight. They may squeal but will be fine.I'll turn off the heat first.
